Over a period of time different levels of government have told us, on many occasions, that we the elderly should be downsizing and economising where possible. Well we have done this and it has backfired in our case. Recently we sold our house at Jindalee and on the same day purchased a smaller dwelling at Bellbowrie. Apparently this action renders us ineligable for our Water Remission Rebate so two pensioners who rely on every discount they can get are now at a definite disadvantage, or to put it another way, discriminated against. It's not enough the council charges a ridiculous transfer fee of $186, now this discriminatory action as well. One of our main reasons for moving to Bellbowrie was for a cheaper lifestyle !! The moral of this story: Don't sell your house in the BCC council area and buy another in this area expecting to get your water remission (rebate) transferred to the new address. You will loose at least $60 per quarter like I did. Extremely unfair to say the least. Corporate Australia and local authorities are becoming excessively greedy and very impersonal. It's not a good example to be setting and definitely NOT.... How to Win friends and Influence people. Lee Ghost Gum Street, Bellbowrie.
